Meeting the Need during COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic made our program more essential than ever.

In the past few years, families and children in the zip codes we serve in Montgomery County have been deeply affected by COVID-19. Many have had their lives turned upside down.

The normal access to books offered by child care providers, preschools and libraries was disrupted by the pandemic. At the same time, many families are still struggling to put food on the table, so there is no room in the budget for books. Books provided by Imagination Library may be the ONLY new books many children will receive this year.

The good news is that the books delivered by Imagination Library were deemed essential, so the national organization has never stopped mailing books during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The bad news is that our local affiliate is running at capacity and we have been forced to limit the number of new registrations. Currently, we are opening and closing registration on a monthly basis as our funding allows. We would like to be able to say "yes" to every family who wishes to enroll.

Please consider donating today to help us meet the need and continue to share the joy of reading with young children.

Every dollar makes a difference. A gift of $25 can provide one a child with a new book each month for a year. A recurring monthly gift of $25 can provide a new book each month to 12 children!

Give online using the DONATE NOW button, or mail a check to: Imagination Library of Montgomery County Maryland , 6106 Harvard Avenue  - Box 346, Glen Echo, MD  20812

When you click the Donate Now button, you will be redirected to the national Imagination Library website to make your gift. Our affiliate code will automatically be entered on the donation form.

Make a grant to help us grow!

We are proud to enroll around 2,500 children who receive a new book every month, and individual donations are essential to helping us maintain and slowly increase our capacity.

However, there are thousands more families in the zip codes our affiliate serves (our estimate is as many as 11,000) who would be eligible for the program and who would find it incredibly valuable - especially during these difficult times - to receive free, high-quality books for their infants, toddlers and preschoolers.

Providing books to young children is a simple and powerful way to cultivate a love of reading and encourage early literacy, which helps lay the foundation for future success in school. That's why we formed an affiliate in 2015 and why we hope to keep growing!

If you represent a foundation or corporate giving program interested in boosting our capacity - including exploring the potential for expanding our service area to additional zip codes in Montgomery County - please contact Executive Director Debbie Pollack at debbie.pollak@imaginationlibrarymcmd.org or 301-718-2665.
